The French Open, prestigious tennis tournament in Paris

Every year, the famous international tennis championship Roland Garros (French Open) transforms the quiet district of Porte d’Auteuil in Paris in a VIP stage where the best global racket clash for two weeks. One of the four biggest tennis tournaments in the world – the Grand Slam – Roland Garros had been bringing together all professionals and tennis enthusiasts for nearly a century. This year 2016, it will take place from May 22 to June 5.

Roland Garros, an elitist and historic event

Initially named Internationaux de France in 1925, the Roland Garros championship takes a few years later the name of the famous aviator and tennis fan, moving in the stadium of the same name with 24 courts spread over 8 hectares.

First open only to men with a dozen registered, the famous tennis tournament hosts gradually more and more female players making their way through success as the German Steffi Graf.  The golden age of tennis starts, symbolized by the clay associated with the symbol of world stars such as Swedish Björn Borg, the Czech Ivan Lendl and the french Yannick Noah. Today, Roland Garros is considered the largest world championship on clay, but also the most difficult.

Roland Garros, fashionable and mediatized rendezvous

During the fortnight of the prestigious tournament, the city of Paris whole lives to the rhythm tennis. Fashion designers are launching exclusive collections of ready-to-wear, pastry chefs create delicacies tennis balls and rackets-shaped, sports brands are looking for any sponsorship, and the Paris Jet Set meets in the court with champagne, and the tabloids never cease to publish all kinds of juicy anecdotes.

The 2016 Roland Garros program

If the projectors are placed mainly on the men and women finals (for which you must wait until 4 and 5 June 2016), there are also other events to enjoy during the championship. Among others: Gentlemen doubles, ladies doubles, mixed doubles and the Juniors tournament hosting future tennis stars of tomorrow.

Tip: if you want to watch the world finest rackets in action, do not wait to get your tickets. Roland Garros is one of the most coveted events in France or Europe!
