François | about the guide

The best millésimes? Undulating landscapes laced with vineyards? One of the most prestigious cathedrals in France? This private tour will take you to the heart of a French wine region whose economy has been driven by Champagne production since the 18th century. Your first destination, Reims, is home to a magnificent cathedral and some of the best French Champagne houses. You will begin with a guided visit of Reims Cathedral where French kings were crowned over more than 1,000 years from Louis the Pious in 816 to Charles X in 1825. Next stop? Taittinger. Explore their cellars, sample their Champagne and enjoy a delicious lunch at a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, you will discover Epernay and in particular Moët-Chandon. Founded in 1743 and owned by LVMH, the Champagne house is the proud owner of the largest vineyard in the region. The guided visit will be followed by tastings under the guidance of a professional sommelier. Before returning to Paris, you’ll stop at the beautiful hilltop Abbey of Hautvillers, whose location was, according to legend, chosen by a dove.

I’m from the northern French town of Douai, but I moved to Paris to finish my art history degree. I worked at the Musée National de la Renaissance and then for antique dealer Jacqueline Boccador before organizing contemporary art exhibitions with art dealer Marc Higonnet. I’ve been a qualified guide since 2011 and enjoy being able to mix my love of the humanities and good food. When I was young, my mother took me to the Musée de la Chartreuse de Douai for an archeology lecture, which I found incredibly beautiful (even if I didn’t understand everything)! Since then, I give lectures and guided tours in the hope of inspiring young – and not so young – people. Given my classical background, I’m particularly fond of the Louvre, the Jacquemart-André, Picasso et Middle Ages museums, as well as the châteaux of Chantilly, Fontainebleau and Chambord.
