WITH
Richard | about the guide

Explore the countryside surround Nice and the French Riviera during a half-day hike in the Provence mountains and picturesque hilltop towns. Your guide will take you to the village of Peille, dating from the Middle Ages and maintaining a great part of its historical heritage. You will stroll along the narrow streets, passing by the gothic fountains, stone squares, and ancient chapels. Continue your journey via small rocky paths on a beautiful 2.5-hour hike that will take you down to Peillon, a second medieval village you will discover as you walk through the alleys and hidden archways. You will also admire the remains of the fortress at the top of the village and the old religious buildings such as the White Penitents chapel, dating back to 1495.

Lunch time approaching, your guide will lead you to L’auberge de la Madone, a family restaurant owned by chefs Millo and Christian, and his son Thomas. Located at the foot of the village, the famous restaurant has been open since 1946 and has played host to many notable persons, including a Prime Minister of the UK, François Hollande (before he became president) and a Turkish sultan who sent 3 limousines to retrieve a second piece of the chocolate cake he had enjoyed so much. On site, chef Thomas Millo will show you how to prepare a simple menu with local produce, while focusing on aromatic herbs of the region. You will then sit down for a delicious lunch, with a choice of two possible menus. Important: The tour is not recommended during the months of July and August due to the excessive heat (especially on the hiking trail).

After discovering the joys of the mountains on the French riviera cliffs, I really became aware of my passion for mountains and nature during my years of study. In parallel with my diploma in Tourism, English and German, I did many trips and internships in order to extend my knowledge of the environment. This allowed me to integrate the National School of Skiing and Mountaineering of Chamonix and get the diploma of Mountain Guide, to educate visitors about the beauty of nature and let them live a unique experience within the practice of hiking. In order to develop my skills in cultural tourism in the mountains, I got my national tour guide diploma, allowing me to organize the most original walking tours or snowshoes tours. Today, I have a strong experience of 30 years of guiding, and I invite you to discover the wild beauty of the Nice area, with its mountains and old hilltop fortified villages.

We were looking for a truly unique experience in this tour and that is exactly what we received! We love to travel and for us, part of traveling is seeing unique places, meeting local people and getting to experience hands on what the world is about. This tour and others on this website help us realize why we love to travel. We highly recommend this tour for everyone. Thanks Richard for a fabulous time.
