Peter | about the guide

Discover the beautiful flower world of Amsterdam and its surroundings. You will start your day heading to the city of Aalsmeer which hosts Flora Holland, the world's biggest flower auction. There, you will watch the selling of flowers and plants in the auction rooms, and follow them from the moment of auctioning until their purchase by a florist from the wholesale centre. (As there will be a lot of walking involved, make sure you wear comfortable shoes). Then, you will enjoy a scenic tour through the bulb fields, passing by some little towns such as Lisse, Hillegom and Sassenheim where you will enjoy several photo opportunities between flowering Daffodils, Hyacinths, and Tulips. After a lunch in a beautiful golf course restaurant surrounded by flowering bulb fields, you will head to Keukenhof park. With a hundred of exhibitors, 500 flower growers, 20 flower shows and 9 gardens, it highlights 7 million flowers such as tulips, daffodils, crocuses, hyacinths and orchids arranged and planted by hand according to specific plans devised months ahead; a spectacle orchestrated around a different theme each year. You will also discover the very special Orchid greenhouse in the Beatrix-pavilion and relax with some drinks and snacks in one of the several restaurants if you wish. During the day, you will take part in a floral workshop led by the florist-ladies of the Villa Blossom who will teach you how to compose a stunning bouquet. WARNING, this tour is seasonal and is only available from March 23 to May 21, for 2017.

Born in Rotterdam, I lived in Amsterdam with my family between 2 and 12 years old, moving then to Aalsmeer, the flower-capital of Holland where the Floriculture is very developed. As an important part of my family was involved in the flower-industry, it was not a coincidence that I went to horticultural school and horticultural college. After college I left Holland to live in England for 6 months to work in floriculture. I also worked and lived in France for 2 months. When I came back to Holland, I started working at a breeding-company in Gerbera-cut flowers and, as a hobby, I started breeding cut flower-roses. After a few years, I started my own company specializing in Gerbera-cut flowers and developed many well-known new varieties. Many years later, I decided to change my career a little, driving tourists to floricultural destinations amongst other destinations, before I started my own business guiding visitors through Holland's booming floriculture in flower auctions and flower parks such as Keukenhof. I also organise tours to some small old towns like Marken, Volendam, and Edam, and to some cheese markets. I always try to give my guests a good and enjoyable time as most of them are in Holland just for a few days and want to have a memorable experience.

“The Highlight of our Vacation!” - Going on a flower tour with Peter was the perfect way to experience flowers in Holland. He took my Mother & me on a superb tour of the Flower Auction - there was so much going on at one time, it took an expert to explain it and Peter is an expert. Then we visited places where they sell flowers...
