Rolf | about the guide

Discover the real essence of Amsterdam, an incredible open-minded city in which ancient traditions harmoniously blend with present aspirations. You will start with a boat cruise, giving you an overview of its highlights including the Unesco World Heritage-listed canals, the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), the beautiful 17th-century townhouses around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Canal, the EYE Filmmuseum and many others. On board, you will enjoy some drinks and snacks. Afterwards, you will relax with a drink at the famous De Waag restaurant and café, a former fortification and oldest edifice in Amsterdam, dating all the way back to 1488. Then, you will stroll around the oldest part of the town and discover hidden churches, Begijnhof (one of oldest inner courts in Amsterdam), and the Dam Square with its Royal Palace and National Monument. You will also visit the Red Light District where you will learn about the rules and regulations of legal prostitution, as you pass through the narrowest alleys and some of the 400 windows of barely dressed ladies. You will continue in the Rijksmuseum, main art museum of the Netherlands with its impressive collection of 8000 paintings. Your professional guide will bring History to life and point out many easy-to-miss details. The museum tour will focus on 17th century Dutch painting, the Gallery of Honor showcasing Vermeer, Frans Hals and of course the famous Nightwatch by Rembrandt van Rijn, giving you a complete overview of the Dutch painters' success during their Golden Century.

Amsterdam

Born and raised in Amsterdam, I also lived two years in London, four years in New York City and travelled a lot in Germany. I used to be a professional backgammon and poker player before coming back to my roots and starting my own guiding company, offering tours in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Russian. As a professional guide and authentic Amsterdamer, I know my city perfectly and I like to show its hidden gems to visitors. Passionate about architecture and history, I love to organize personalized visits in the Rijksmuseum, bringing to life stories of the past and pointing out the secret details. During my tours, I always try to show the most of Amsterdam's rich art history, which continues to be of great importance to understand the past, and to us, an important theme to study to be inspired for the future. I have a real appetite for knowledge, a strong sense of patriotism and a warm personality to help visitors integrate Amsterdam's authentic atmosphere and culture and enjoy a memorable experience.

Well, you couldn't make it work out with Rolf, he was busy, so you arranged with another guide (Tom) to make arrangements for Ana, Sabry and Villiam to take us. All three people were excellent! We were impressed by all guides , and highly impressed by Sabry and his knowledge of Art at the Rijks. He is so educated and interesting! Julia Gayden Truluck
