Amsterdam, museum capital of Europe

Amsterdam is a city where you can never get bored said the guide Rolf, real Amsterdamer full of humorous and passionate about history and culture. Indeed, beyond the beautiful bike rides along the canals, the emblematic markets (such as the Albert Cuyp Market or the flower market) and the famous Red Light District, the capital of Netherlands has a real treasure: its museums. Whether you love art, history, science, fashion, or a more original theme, Amsterdam has always a museum for you.

A large range of museums at the very image of Amsterdam

To understand Amsterdam, one must walk through its museums, which allow to perceive the openness of this incredible city in which the styles and aspirations harmoniously blend. Everyone lives his life while respecting the choices of the others; anti-conformism goes side with conventional, coffee shops adjoin churches, the Biblical Museum and the Eroticism Museum share the same neighborhood! And the city offers museums from the most serious, such as the Anne Frank Museum, to the most decadent, like the Cats Cabinet.

Did you know? Amsterdam has the largest concentration of museums in the world with over 150 different, ranging from world-famous museums, such as the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, to the unexpected, such as the Museum of Fluorescent Art or the Museum of Spectacles

Amsterdam, real hub of learning and knowledge

I’m personally fan of the Rembrandt House Museum which really gives the feeling of going back several centuries in time, and in which one we can learn how to make colors with pigments in the old fashion way, before discovering a beautiful gallery of the painter’s work using the famous method ”chiaroscuro’’.

If you too have a thirst for knowledge and discovery, Amsterdam is the city for you to stroll through the world’s largest collections: the Madame Tussaud’s, The Museum of Bags and Purses, Film Museum, the Museum of Torture, the Museum of Modern Art… Some of them will probably bore you, others surely will surprise you… But in all cases you will leave Amsterdam with a new vision of the world. Who said curiosity was a bad thing ? Most definitely not an Amsterdamer! A word to the wise…
